WK 12 – Activity – Teach One

Tags

This week is the last week of activity of Art110. It has been a long way but the end has come. This week activity is extraordinary. We are to teach someone an art idea or art technique. I have done so many activities in the semester but finding someone to teach art is a bit of a problem since many people are not interest in art. That is why I chose to teach to my mother who has no interested in art whatsoever. I want to teach her that art is more than just a painting or drawing. Art can be anything simple yet beautiful. The activity I choose to teach my brother is one of the activity we have done just a week ago in the course. That is right, the let you choose activity. I want to let my mother decided what she really loved to do in her spare time. With that being said, she told me to take a photo of her and the garden in the front. So I did it. I took a picture of her crouching behind a pile of flowers with fruits tree behind her. I am not a good photographer but the picture I took for my mom look amazing. When my mother look at the photo she said it was beautiful and awesome. I told her that it was an art. She argued that it just a picture. I told her that art is more than just what people think. It is not just about drawing and painting. She understood me a little bit and I am bit happy that she can appreciate the concept of art a bit more than before.

Week 12 – Artist Interview – Lacy McCune & Angie Samblotte

This week art gallery I visited the Dutzi Gallery and it was interesting and amazing. The  artists who had their art work displayed in the Dutzi Gallery were Angie Samblotte and Lacy McCune. Their artwork was titled “Taking my Time in the Paradigm”. Paradigm is pretty much a typical example or pattern of something. Seeing that word in the title, I lookat some of their beautiful paintings and drawings and thought the title was well suited. For example, one of the art piece was a drawing and it caught my attention because it made me think about how it resembled the branch of life. I got that impression by looking at how the drawing started to grow big and evolve to something beautiful. Some of their other artworks resembled that pattern as well. For example, another art piece I saw was a bunch of small objects that resembled furniture. It look sound simple but when I saw the creativity put into these, I really thought it was interesting because it had some crystal glass growing on the furniture. I like how the artists made these furniture. They all look like the old century furniture that we do not see often these days in people homes.

Week 12 – Activity Feedback

Tags

This Art110 course was truly a course that had gone beyond my expectation. I have learned so much about art and in a fun way too. I do not have to read textbook or remember facts or anything. This course teach me that arts is more than just a painting on a wall. I have also gained the confidence to socialize with strangers because of the many classmates interviews we have been doing. This week the Professor gave us an additional extra credit opportunity to choose and talk about three awesome class activities that we really enjoyed participating and three others that are least impressive. I was very glad when he announced it because I really need the extra credit. Once i went over all the activities I have done so far in this class and choose: Instagram, Landscape, and Student Choice. The reason why I really liked doing the instagram  activity is because it shows me how there are many commons things I shared with a stranger. It made me more confident to approached or talk to them when they come up and talk. That is why it was one of my favorite. The second favorite activity I chose was Landscape. The reason why I enjoyed this activity was because it made me think of the future and reminds me to treasure my life and live to the fullest. The third and last activity I really enjoyed doing was the Student Choice. This activity allows me to think that even the stuffs I loved to do is art as well to some people. Everyone has their own art. To be honest I did not dislike any of the activities we did in class but if i had to choose my least favorite activities then I would choose: Drawing, Plaster Casting, and Painting. Yeah I know those are literally art activity. The reasons why I dislike the drawing activity was that I get irritated when someone did not even try their best to draw me. I am not a stick figure. It takes forever for one to draw a human looking being. I hate it when you tried your best but the other side did not. The idea is good and all but I do not really like it so much. The Plaster Casting activity was a less favorite as well because it required us to spend money on the accessories. Finally the third least favorite activity was Painting. The reason why I dislike it is because I do not like to use spray can to paint on wall. To me it felt like I am vandalizing someone property. I know that it is a form of art from learning and watching in the class, however the fact is that you are painting on someone property is the same as damaging their stuffs. I know the activity we can legally spray paint the places that the Professor mentions, but the idea of using spray can to paint still does sit well with me. But that is just me. Other than that I really enjoyed most of the activities. I honestly think that giving us more class activities during the week would connect the students with art in a deeper way that would spark and spread the interest in art to others. I really like this class. It is not just some boring art class where you just learn text and draw. It is more than that and I really appreciate your teaching, Professor Zucman.

This week I got to meet a classmate that cherish a same heritage as mine. Alex Lo is a Sophomore here at CSULB and is majoring in Kinesiology. Alex’s ethnicity is Chinese/Vietnamese and he takes pride in his culture and heritage. He says he respects and appreciate his parents, grandparents, and his relatives for all the sacrifices they have put in to create a better life for him. I really respect Alex. I have seen many people not understanding how much sacrifices has been made by their ancestors for them to be here. Alex mentions that he is the youngest of his two elder brothers. He loved being here at Long Beach and the community around here. He said he definitely fits in with the skaters out here since his hobbies includes skating. Alex also workout and played a lot of football and volleyball. When I asked him about art, he said that he was not really into art. It was nice meeting him and very kind of him of letting me interviewing him. Here is his website, check it out! http://alexanderl0.com/

Wk 11 – Classmate Conversation – Melanie Colli

This week was a pretty cool. I got to meet a classmate that share a lot of my interest. Melanie is a third year student here at CSULB and she is currently undeclared, but she told she was thinking of declaring as a film major special in screen writing. Melanie likes to write stories in her head and draw out the characters. She is a big fan of Anime and Manga, like me. She also loved playing game, especially Japan games. If games that are not translated and export oversea, she would import them from their country. That is pretty crazy since that is mostly $100 and above for one single game. She also write fan fiction about existing anime stories to keep her writing sharp. Overall it was pretty awesome meeting Melanie, a fellow classmate that shares my interest!

WK 11 – Activity – Student Choice – Editing Binaries

Tags

This week activity, Professor Zucman lets decide what we want to do for our weekly activity. I chose to show what I like to do with the things I learned in my computer class. There are many games, website, and programs that are made from foreign people. It means that all of those things are written in a foreign language. However, there is one thing that all of them share. That is binary. What I like to do now and then when I have free time, is translate some game text from non-English games. For example, a pc game called Romance of the Three Kingdom was made and released to China and Japan. However, because of it not being popular in the west, it never gotten a localization therefore no English version of it at all. There are certain amount number of people in the west that love that game but does not have a chance to play it and even if they do(importing), then they would not understand a single text because it is not in English. This is where editing files comes to play. What I generally do is open certain scene file in the game and examine the character, data space, and binaries. It is gonna get complicated trying to explain this so I make it short. Pretty much what I do is replace the character or kanji of file with a binary that implement an alphabetical letter. Eventually rewriting the whole script and translating the game to English. I learned all this from my computer science course here in CSULB. The course did not teach us to edit games but it sure teach me the stuff needed to do that though!

WK 11-Artist Interview-Wesley Hicks

This week I gotten to see more art pieces in the CSULB gallery. However, none of the galleries this week peak my interest at all. It is not that the art was bad or anything. Rather, I felt nothing from the art pieces. There was nothing I could relate to. If anything, the only room that I had some sort of interest was probably Wesley Hick’s art room. His art pieces was created to exploit the imperfections and the way we see things in the world. He wants the audiences to think hard to themselves to find out the meaning from the imperfection shape that were constantly redone to make better. Although that really did not made me think hard enough because all I got from my brain was a huge question mark. His art pieces are all miniature scale blocks and they all have larger scale pieces. I enjoyed looking at each piece seeing if they connect to each other.

WK 10 – Activity – Landscape and Corpse

This week’s activity, we are back to do photography but this time with a theme. We got to take a picture of how we see ourselves dying or how we could die. This activity seems fun and all but it does bring me bad memories of how I actually was close to dying by a hand of a human being. Long story short, I got house invasion by a group of men but by god miracle I was saved and everything is all well. Only thing is I have a permanent scar of that incident on my back. With this week activity I plan to take a photo of myself being stab to death by my own dagger in my room. The reason why I choose this is because this is what I visualize after the home invasion incident. I thought to myself, “I was really lucky that guy did not pick my up dagger in my room and used it on me”.

WK 10-Artist Interview-Nathaniel Glauninger

This week I got to witness a fascinating art piece in the CSULB gallery created by an artist called Nathaniel Glauninger. A square box made out of pennies. The pennies are stacked on top one another. The reflection of the light from the pennies made it look really awesome. It made me think for a moment the instant I saw the art piece. Penny are considered the lowest valued form of American currency and is disregard by majority of people. For example, a person walk and found a penny on the floor, chances are, he probably will not even bother to pick it up and walk past it. However, with this art piece I seen today, it seems to me that anything people disregard can be made into something awesome. Looking at that art made me think, “Well now that is worth a lot of money despite it being made out of the lowest currency.”

WK 9 – Activity – VLOG

Video is pretty self explanatory. I embedded it onto my website in the “about me” section so go check it out. I watch a lot of vlogers for fun and giggle, but I  never imagine the day I actually do it myself.

A vlog is a great way to draw people in. A vlog beats a blog because it’s more intriguing. People can hear and see you when you speak about something. I’m really looking forward to actually keeping my website after this class. I started to grow more interesting in it as days past. Also my email is fmai1994@gmail.com if you wish to contact me! Visit my about me page for more info about myself.
